Before remote control channel changes, there were manual dials. You actually had to get up and go to the TV to change the channel. Channel surfing was a non issue.

Before there was speed dial and cell phones, there were rotary dials. Using a pencil to dial saved your nails.

Before cable TV there were "rabbit ear" antenna's. Aluminum foil helped the reception.
